Common Questions

Frequently Asked
Questions

What is Nutritional Psychiatry?
Nutritional Psychiatry uses food as medicine to treat mental health. A growing body of evidence shows that diet directly impacts mood, brain health, and risk for chronic disease — including psychiatric disorders. The gut, brain, and microbiome communicate constantly, and what you eat shapes that conversation.
Are you accepting new patients?
Yes! We are currently accepting new telehealth patients in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, and Georgia. Lifestyle and Nutrition Coaching is available Nationwide. Book your initial evaluation through the Patient Portal.
What happens at my first appointment?
Your initial evaluation lasts 75–90 minutes. Dr. Andy will review your full medical, social, family, and nutritional history. She may order labs or request records from your medical provider. Her goal is a complete picture of your health — to build a personalized strategy unique to you.
What's the difference between coaching and clinical care?
Clinical care (psychiatric evaluation, therapy, medication management) addresses diagnosed psychiatric conditions via telehealth within licensed states (MD, VA, DC, GA). Coaching is available nationwide and focuses on lifestyle, nutrition, and nervous system optimization — no diagnosis required.
Do you accept insurance?
Dr. Watkins is not in-network with any insurance. She does not accept Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance. Upon request, a Superbill is provided so you can seek out-of-network reimbursement directly from your insurer. We recommend calling your insurance company before your first visit to understand your potential reimbursement.
How do I access the Patient Portal?
All appointments and records are managed through the CharmTracker Patient Portal. New patients must complete an Initial Diagnostic Evaluation before scheduling follow-ups. Coaching clients must complete a Coaching Agreement prior to engagement. Payment is due at the time of appointment.
How do I book an appointment?
Patient appointments are scheduled through the Patient Portal. Click "Schedule an Appointment" on the Home Page or via the Patient Portal link. Appointment requests are reviewed by the administrator to ensure the appointment type matches your needs.
Do new patients need an initial evaluation first?
Yes. All new patients must complete an Initial Diagnostic Evaluation (75–90 minutes, $600) before scheduling any follow-up appointments. This evaluation allows Dr. Andy to understand your full health picture and build a tailored treatment plan.
What is required before starting coaching?
Coaching clients are required to complete a Coaching Agreement prior to engagement. The 6-Week Intensive requires a $600 deposit at booking. The 12-Week Executive Coaching requires a full 12-week commitment at time of engagement.
What is the rescheduling policy?
Rescheduling policies and any associated fees are detailed in the Patient Portal upon registration. Please review these before your first appointment. Payment is always due at the time of service.
When is payment due?
Payment is due at the time of your appointment. For coaching packages, a deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your spot. Full package payment details are provided in the Coaching Agreement.
How are prescriptions sent?
All prescriptions are sent through a secure Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to your preferred pharmacy. This ensures accuracy, privacy, and a complete record of your medications as part of your overall treatment plan.
When are prescription refills handled?
Prescription refills are managed at the time of your scheduled appointment. This ensures Dr. Andy can review your progress, monitor for any side effects, and make informed adjustments to your treatment plan during each visit.
How much medication is prescribed at a time?
For adequate safety and monitoring, a patient may not receive more than a 30-day supply of medication at a time. This policy ensures regular check-ins and allows Dr. Andy to monitor your response to treatment and make timely adjustments.
Does Dr. Andy prescribe controlled substances?
No. Controlled substances — including stimulants (e.g. Adderall), benzodiazepines (e.g. Xanax), and pain medications (e.g. Percocet) — are not prescribed as part of treatment. Dr. Andy focuses on safe, evidence-based, non-controlled approaches combined with nutritional and lifestyle strategies for lasting healing.
Does Dr. Andy coordinate with my other providers?
Yes. Dr. Andy will consult with your therapist and/or primary care physician as needed to develop a cohesive, whole-health treatment plan. Coordinated care leads to better outcomes, and Dr. Andy actively supports that collaboration.
